ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
“This piece represents the Memory of forests as they once were; it is an ode to the vast wilderness that once covered the world and the potency of nature. Deer have long been held to be mystic creatures, from Cernunnos who was a god in Celtic mythology with deer antlers atop his head, to the white hart of Arthurian legend, deer have long been spiritual guides, harbingers of transgressed taboos, the companions to saints and fairies alike. This creature of mine, Memory, is a combination of a Stag and an Ibex, combining the spiritual symbolism of the deer with the tragic endangerment of the old world ibex. In Memory is about both the power of nature and the loss of it. It is meant as a reflection on what been lost and what could be regained.”
