Another Roadside Attraction | Opens This Friday

A year ago, Anagnorisis Fine Arts was accepted into the prestigious Program for Emerging Curators that has been run by New York’s ISE Cultural Foundation since 1984. Finally, Another Roadside Attraction has been realized and is fully installed in ISE’s gallery in SoHo.

The purpose of this exhibit is to explore a common element prevalent in the work of Anagnorisis artists: The Grotesque.

Dan Ouellette | Mewler | 27×17″ | graphite on paper

Exhibiting only a fraction of work that could have been included, Another Roadside Attraction hopes to at least bring a little more awareness to the strength of the language these works speak, and open up a critical dialog amongst those who have been arrested by it and those who wish to understand it more.

Please join us for one or both of the events we have planned around this group show:

Opening reception this Friday, November 12th, 6-8pm with an afterparty, location to be announced. Many of the artists will be present.

Discussion on the grotesque in art on Saturday, November 20th 5-7pm, lead by Dr. Nancy Hightower, instructor in the Program for Writing and Rhetoric at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

The exhibit will be on view from now until the end of the year at the ISE Cultural Foundation’s gallery, located at 555 Broadway, between Prince and Spring in the Scholastic building. Please note that in order to enter the gallery, you must be buzzed in after pressing their bell that is to the right of the door. You can take the stairs or the elevator to their basement gallery from the building’s lobby.

How will you know you’ve found the right place? Why, Charlie, Henri and Persephone, all part of Julie Anne Mann’s installation entitled Rue 29, will greet you at the door!
