Anagnorisis Picks (yet another!)

Here’s yet another slew of exhibits to see, two of which are about to close.  I already posted about four last week.

Sibylle Peretti | A Thin Silver Lining | Heller Gallery

Sibylle Peretti’s Herself

Thanks to Lori Field who posted images from this wonderful artist on her saintstigersloversart blog. I hope to catch this show before it comes down on May 1. Heller Gallery is located at 420 West 14th Street in NYC.

OUROBOROS: The History of the Universe  |  ISE Cultural Foundation
ISE Cultural Foundation

An excerpt from ISE’s website:

ISE Cultural Foundation is pleased to present an exhibition, “Ouroboros: The History of the Universe”, curated by Koan Jeff Baysa, MD.
Video artist Ali Hossaini teams up with artists Blake Shaw and Bruno Levy, aka SWEATSHOPPE, to present Ouroboros: The History of the Universe. Over 30,000 images combine to tell the story of cosmic evolution from the Big Bang to Lady Gaga in an immersive 3D video environment generated by SWEATSHOPPE’s own software.

I’ve not yet seen this show, but Phantasmaphile has given it quite an amazing review. Again, I hope to catch it before it comes down on April 30 (although Phantasmaphile indicates April 23rd as being the last day to see the show).  The ISE Cultural Foundation is located at 555 Broadway in NYC.

Mark Ryden  |  The Gay 90s Old Tyme Art Show  |  Paul Kasmin Gallery

Invite to opening reception (the exhibit is not exclusive – anyone can go)

My heart skipped a beat when I received this amazingly beautiful invite in the mail to the opening to Mark Ryden‘s upcoming exhibit. This show is going to be amazing. Rumor is that the opening is going to be not a little bit crowded, so to get a good view of the artwork you’ll probably want to either get there early or go another time.

It should be fun, though. Announcements about the show all invite everyone to dress up in their favorite Old Tyme outfits, so perhaps this will be reminiscent of a good Dances of Vice party!

I will most definitely be going to the Heffernan opening beforehand along with Danielle Ezzo, Buddy Nestor and Hanna von Goeler. Hope to see you there – in your spats and corsets, perhaps?  Paul Kasmin Gallery is located at 293 Tenth Ave.  The show runs from April 29th through June 5th.  The reception is on the 29th from 5-8.

Images of Ryden’s Incarnation painting have been circulating for a while. If you missed the process video, here you go:

Get ready for a Judith Schechter show coming up at Claire Oliver quite soon.  Beauty and the Beef opens up on May 22.  Ain’t no pictures to show you yet, so hold tight!

By the way – if you know of an exhibit you think we should post here, please let us know.
